12 Days exploring Costa Rica

Day 1. Arrival to Costa Rica
Arrival to Costa Rica (SJO Airport) and transfer to your hotel near the airport. Pick up your rental car, a Daihatsu Terios 4x4, and rest of the day free to explore the near surrounding and get in contact with the culture and local people!
Day 2. Arenal
Having a rental car gives you the freedom to decide the departure time, driving to La Fortuna. |

La Fortuna, Arenal: Arenal is located on the North Region of Costa Rica and it is a rain forest destination, home of the Arenal Volcano, which is active since 1968. If the weather conditions allow it, you might observe the occasional eruptions during the day or the night, the ash and smoke columns and the lava flows. |

If you depart early from San Jose, on the way you can plan to stop at Poas Volcano and also at La Paz Waterfall Garden, where you will discover a butterfly garden and 5 waterfalls
Day 3 and 4. Arenal
Free days to discover La Fortuna, join an organized tour or explore by your own.
Adventure or relaxation, this destination offers a great variety of activities and daily tours that you can join. Some of the options are: hikes to the National Park or to Río Celeste, rafting tours, horseback rides, canyoning tours, bungee jumping, floating tour at Peñas Blancas river, visit to the hot spring and spa, biking, kayak tours, canopy tour and hanging bridges.
Day 5. Monteverde
From the rainforest to the cloud forest. Monteverde is one of the famous destinations in Costa Rica: a quiet and small place, immerse in the cloud forest and surrounded by nature. |

In this destination you will find Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and Santa Elena Reserve, besides other private reserves and protected areas such the Children’s Eternal Rain Forest. Surrounded by the fresh climate, this is an incredible place for birdwatching, where you might have the opportunity to observe the Resplendent Quetzals and the Three-wattled Bell Birds. Monteverde was founded by Quakers in 1951, who came to Costa Rica looking for harmony and a peaceful lifestyle |

Day 6. Monteverde
Wake up with the nature sounds and get ready to explore the area. You can join daily tours such as hikes in the reserves, canopy tours and hanging bridges, horseback ride, visits to hummingbird and butterfly gardens. Also you might want to take some time to visit the town, the cheese factory and some of the art galleries with local art.
Day 7. San Jose
At desired time return to San Jose, to spend the night in a hotel close to the airport, for the next day local flight to Osa Peninsula.
You can spend the morning exploring other attractions in Monteverde and return during the afternoon to San Jose, to drop off the rental car and lodging in convenient hotel.
Day 8. Osa Peninsula, Corcovado
Early in the morning take the domestic flight to Palmar Sur, a town located in the South Pacific and your next stop before arriving to Osa Peninsula. Needed transportation (taxi and boat) will be provided until the hotel in Corcovado. |

Corcovado:
This remote area of Corcovado is located on the South Pacific area of Costa Rica, at the Osa Peninsula. Here you will find Corcovado National Park and Cano Island (great for snorkeling), two important protected areas.You will have the opportunity to explore virgin and secondary rainforest and observe all the great fauna and flora that enriches this zone. Some of the species you might find on this part of our country are scarlet macaws, toucans, reptiles and mammals. |

Day 9, 10 and 11. Osa Peninsula, Corcovado
Three day in Drake Bay area, near Corcovado National Park, a place that has been called “the most biologically intense place on Earth” by National Geographic.
Two tours are included: one day guided tour to Corcovado National Park and one day guided tour to Caño Island.
The other day you can join an optional tour, which can be arranged directly at the hotel: another hike tour in Corcovado National Park, sea kayaking, birdwatching, canopy tour, night hike tours, dolphins and whales watching tour and others options.
Complementary use of the kayaks allows you to discover the surrounding areas from the hotel, or just relax, read a book and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Day 12. International Airport - SJO
Morning breakfast allows you to say “see you soon” to the nature. Morning local flight back to San Jose, and transfer to the main terminal of the SJO airport, for your international flight.
